NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day Sixteen

Ginny and I had a chat this morning, before I fed them all and went out to paint.

Morning Chat With Cat

Don’t worry.
I love you.
It’s OK.
Someday,
we’ll both
be old.
But today
is not
that day.

NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day Fourteen

Black cat slithering
through the field
sinuous around each
clump and weed,
a void against the
grey-tan grasses
abandoned by winter.
Above, sky showing ribs.
Below, all paths and trace
concealed,
obliterated.

NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day Seven

Scooping up Ginny, kitten-cat,
she allows me to cradle her
and then place her baby-like
on chest and shoulder.
She’s not a very huggy cat
but this she suffers daily
especially if near a door or window
when my height gives her
a world-view she craves.
It’s a brief visitation.
I admire her beauty up close,
her whiskers, her ears
her off-kilter calico being.
She listens to these murmurs
and accepts the finger strokes
jumping down of her own accord.
Some days, she explores with her
exquisite, fuzzy nose –
the snuffling intimacy
fills my examined ear with bliss
recalling other touches so sweet
Her parting glance reminds me
breakfast is waiting,
and our moment is complete.

NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day One

And we’re off, today taking a quiet lesson from the wee beasts I live with:

This morning, I turned off the radio,
needing to believe that evil will not win.
In the end, it will not conquer.
So, silence the news, the repeated din,
Three cats thumped down the old stairs
just ahead of me.
They’re the old toy, unremembered name,
that clicked and clacked its way down
a slant with baby carriage or barrow.
they wait by their bowls,
three and a snack-spare
accepting my ear rub and food.
The house is still.
Light comes in each window,
dims and returns, a passing cloud
not noted by the feasting cats
who daily rejoice in breakfast
before seeking their spot of light.

Cat-proofing

I’m pretty confident that although the cats could drag the whole black roll around, they’ll be unable to pull the nice “fur” brushes out of it without developing opposable thumbs.

Helpful Cats…

Several mornings in a row I awoke to find various brushes out of the roll up they live in and scattered upstairs and down. Not amused. The most favored of course are the sables and squirrel mops. The cat(s) seem to have pulled them out of the roll leaving everything as is.

In desperation I got the same brush roll I use in my travel kit which folds over the end of the brushes. Hopefully this will eliminate the temptation. Bad kitties.

The fellow at my local art supply store found this all rather amusing. I was just glad they had another roll.
