NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day Ten

If you keep your eyes open and head up, you’ll see signs – the trees turning red, fences glint – so you can turn to see the sun’s last display.

Painters’ Delight

when the sun slants and skips
across the Hudson’s valleys
the air glows gold
painters tried to capture it
they still try, running out
when the fences and trees blush
the clouds flutter
pale pink, ineffable orange
purple, steel
across the turquoise of dusk
even if the sky’s not
a delight-bringing red
we wave farewell to this day
and turn with hope to the next.
